Mobility or Stability or Strength?

Do you have a mobility problem, stability problem, or capacity (strength, endurance, speed, power) problem?

In our office most of our clients issues come down to a mobility, stability, or capacity problem. First let's define what each of these mean in our office.

Mobility - we'd say you have a mobility problem if you have a joint restriction, soft tissue restriction or a combination of the both.

Stability - we'd say you have a stability problem if you cannot perform an action but when you relax and we can passively move you into position. Another way to think about it is motor control, or your ability to control your movements.

Capacity - if you have proper movement and control, we need to increase the capacity at which you can do the task.

If you have never been assessed you would have no idea what kind of problem you have. We as humans have our activities that we enjoy to do, and everyone enjoys different things. Some people love yoga, some love resistance training, some love to run.

If we only do the things we like to do, we leave gaps in our training. The yoga goer is very flexible, a lot of times they end up missing stability or strength. The powerlifter is very strong, but they cannot scratch their back. The runner has great endurance but could have the tightest hips and ankles from repetitive strikes during running.

If you want to be the best in the activities you enjoy sometimes we need to do the opposite to balance our bodies out.
